The Natural Beauty of Under The Sea in The Isles Togean
Central Sulawesi provincial government has set Togean Islands, Tojo Una-Una, a major tourist destination on the “Visit Indonesia Year 2012 Central Sulawesi.”
“Togean become one of the amazing tourist attraction in Indonesia so that feasible set as a major tourist destination,” said Central Sulawesi Governor HB Paliudju in Palu.
According to him, the natural beauty under the sea in the Isles Togean not inferior to Bunaken or Bali which is famous. Coral reefs are very natural, and not much damage so it is very beautiful to look at.
“Only a small promotion, Togean Islands will be visited by many foreign tourists,” said Governor Paliudju.
Togean Islands which is about 500 kilometers east of Palu is located in the Gulf of Tomini. The islands have been set by the government in 2004 as a National Park which covers 292 000 hectares and 70,000 hectares of marine ecosystems inland areas, including 10 659 hectares of protected forest and mangrove conservation.
It was also mentioned Togean Islands which has the largest expanse of coral reefs in Indonesia (about 132 000 hectares) are known for having hundreds of amazing diving points.
The survey results Conservation International Indonesia (CII) in the waters Togean in 2001 found as many as 262 types of coral reefs, 596 species of fish and 555 species of molluscs, as well as other rare species such as giant clams (Tridacna gigas), green turtle (Chelonia mygas), turtle (Eretmochelys imbriocata), trochus (Trochus niloticus), dugong-dugong, and pilot whales.
He mentioned the many species of fish, there are two types that are considered endemic, namely fish and ecsenius paracheilinus togeanensis that exist only in Togean.
Alluding to the construction of airports (airports) in Ampana, Paliudju target for completion in 2012 so it can animate “Visit Indonesia Year 2012 Central Sulawesi.”
Currently, he said, the government is building an airport in Ampana, the capital of Tojo Una-Una, to facilitate the tourists visiting the Togean. From Palu tourists have to spend 10-hour overland journey.
“That’s not including the five-hour sea journey before finally arriving at the famous island’s beautiful coral reefs,” he said.
Besides Togean, Central Sulawesi also has a tourism destination that is not less beautiful, namely the Lake Poso, Beach Tanjung Karang, Palu Bay, as well as the Lore Lindu National Park.
